Civil contracting and earthwork specialists
Tauranga and wider Bay of Plenty region

Proper ground preparation sets the project up right

A driveway, shed or building platform is only as good as the ground underneath it. If levels, compaction or drainage are wrong at the start, the problems often appear later as cracking, movement or water issues.

Project Specialists carries out residential earthmoving and excavation from the initial dig-out through to prepared platforms, access tracks and site works, with ground levels set to the required specifications where a project has been engineered.

We visit the site before quoting so we can properly assess access, existing surfaces and what the job will involve.

Project Specialists Ltd - Excavation and Site Preparation

Site excavation for driveways, sheds and building platforms

A large part of our earthworks is practical residential site preparation: driveway dig-outs, shed pads, building platforms, access roads and tracks, land clearing, batters and general excavation.

For sheds and other structures, the ground is prepared ready for the next construction stage. Project Specialists has also carried out foundation and floor preparation for widespan sheds.

Cracked or subsiding driveways often need more than another surface layer. Where the underlying ground is failing, we can excavate the affected area and prepare it properly before the driveway is rebuilt.

Where the project continues into drainage, concrete or other site works, these can be coordinated through our
civil contracting services.

Land levelling and cut and fill to the required specification

Where earthworks form part of an engineered project, the geotechnical report and approved plans determine the required levels and ground preparation. Project Specialists uses its own laser levels to set building platforms and finished levels, with the engineer checking the completed work against the design where required. This is particularly important for building platforms and foundations, where getting the ground right before concrete is poured can prevent much larger problems later.

From straightforward residential land levelling to more involved cut and fill earthworks, the work is planned around the final use of the site rather than simply moving soil from one place to another.

Earthworks planned around drainage and site conditions

Water, weather and site conditions can have a major impact on excavation work, so these need to be considered from the beginning.

Drainage and stormwater works can be coordinated alongside the excavation where they form part of the wider project, avoiding unnecessary rework once the ground has already been opened.

Council requirements may also include erosion and sediment controls such as silt fencing, dust management or runoff controls. These requirements vary from site to site and are allowed for where they apply to the project.

Earthmoving planned around the property, not just the dig

Getting machinery onto an established property needs planning, particularly where access is tight or existing lawns, concrete and steps need to be crossed.

Project Specialists assesses access before work begins and uses protection such as plywood, fabric and temporary ramps where practical. On one project, a temporary ramp was built over a stairway so the digger could reach the work area without damaging the steps. If some damage cannot reasonably be avoided, that is discussed during quoting rather than discovered afterwards.

The main excavators, trucks and laser levels are owned by Project Specialists, with any additional machinery planned and hired before it is required so it does not unnecessarily hold up the work.

Project Specialists handles driveway dig-outs, shed pads, building platforms, access tracks, land clearing, site excavation, land levelling and cut and fill earthworks across Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty.

Yes. Where a project has been designed by a geotechnical engineer, Project Specialists works to the approved requirements, using its own laser levels to set finished levels before the work is checked against the design.

Yes. Where drainage or stormwater forms part of the wider job, it can be coordinated with the earthworks so the site does not need to be opened up again later.

Access is assessed before work starts, with plywood, fabric and temporary ramps used where practical to protect existing surfaces. If some damage cannot reasonably be avoided, this is discussed during quoting rather than after the work is complete.
